When the great Jewish philosopher and theologian Martin Buber was asked, “Where is God?” he wisely avoided cliché answers like God is everywhere. Buber would answer that God is found in relationships. God is not found in people, but between people. When you and I are truly attuned to each other, God comes down and fills the space between us so that we are in communion and not separated. Love and friendship together in community are ways of bringing God into our world that would otherwise be filled with selfishness and loneliness.
Jesus came to bring us the Good News that we belong to God and we belong to each other. He told us that we can find God’s spirit between us and around us. The Church provides the outward sign of God’s presence among us.
We hear God’s word in the scripture. We are nourished by God’s meal in the Eucharist. We serve God’s people in the community and we continually learn of God’s love for us through our traditions and our rituals. The Church is the place wherein we can please God as He delights in us.
Welcome to St. Thomas More where your goodness is discovered, where your gratitude is appreciated, and wherein your life stories help you discover God’s presence in your life.
God bless you,
