Worship

In addition to the ordained ministers (bishop, priest and deacon) there are specific roles in the Liturgy that are exercised by lay men and women who offer their time and talent to the liturgical assembly.

Volunteers are needed in every aspect of the Liturgical Life of the Parish.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guid is responsible for maintaining the altar area on a weekly basis. Their duties include changing the altar candles, the altar cloth, and laundering the altar linens (corporals and purificators).

This ministry requires approximately one hour of time per month.

Altar Servers/Funeral Servers

Altar Servers can be adults or boys and girls 10 years old and older.  This is an excellent opportunity for individuals, families, and married couples to participate in the Liturgy in a very special way.  Training sessions are held twice a year.

Funeral Servers consist of available adults willing to serve at funeral liturgies.  Special training is provided.

Children's Liturgy of the Word for Children

October through May

On Sunday mornings during the 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Masses, children are called to join together in the Social Hall to hear the Liturgy of the Word (the Old and New Testament Scripture readings, Gospel and homily) proclaimed in language they can easily understand.  Children 4 through 9 years old are invited to participate.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

Men, women, and Confirmed young adults sixteen years and older help distribute the Eucharist at weekend Masses.

Lectors/Commentators

Lectors are men, women and Confirmed young adults sixteen years and older who proclaim the Word of God in the first and second readings at the Sunday Liturgy.

Commentators are men and women who welcome the assembly before Mass.  They read the Mass intentions, make announcements, and offer the Prayers of the Faithful.

The ministry of Lector/Commentator is open to all Confirmed members of the parish sixteen years and older.

Liturgical Art Committee

The Liturgical Art Committee prepares the Church for worship by providing artistic decoration to express the liturgical season or celebration. This ministry is responsible for flowers, the hanging of seasonal banners, decorating the Parish Christmas Tree and special preparation for Holy Week and the Easter season.

Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick

St. Thomas More provides Ministers of the Eucharist to take Holy Communion to the homebound.  They also minister to those members residing in nursing homes.

Teen Ministries

Lectors/Commentators

This ministry is available to all Confirmed teens, sixteen years and older.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

This ministry is available to all Confirmed teens, sixteen years and older.

Ushers

The Ministry of Usher is open to all men and women in the parish.  Ushers act as greeters, assist with seating, and give direction during our Communion procession.

Each Sunday the Ushers offer hospitality by providing coffee before and after every Mass.

The Ushers also organize the Oktoberfest, and are primarily responsible for beautifying the parish with Christmas lights.

Wake Ministers

Wake Ministers conduct the wake service by leading the rosary or a scripture service the night before a funeral at the funeral home.  Special training is provided for this special ministry to mourning families.

Wedding Sacristans

Wedding Sacristans are men, women, and married couples who assist the bride and groom with their wedding rehearsal.  They are also present on the day of the wedding to take care of any last minute details and serve as a calming presence for the bride and groom.

Weekend Receptionist

Our Weekend Receptionist can be found at the reception desk in the Gathering Area before Mass.  The receptionist pre-registers new parishioners, schedules Mass intentions, assists parishioners and newcomers, and answers general questions regarding the parish.
